The Foothill-De Anza Community College District Study Abroad Program is on hold until fall quarter 2011, however, the program will return summer 2010 with a trip to Belize in Central America, along with another trip to Vietnam, according to De Anza English instructor and Study Abroad Coordinator John Swensson.
A group of about 20 students were among the first to learn about the trip to Belize at an informational meeting held inside the Kirsch Center on Nov. 2.
Marc Sullivan, along with Ryan Phillips, discussed the proposed organization of the trip, along with the locations to be visited and studied.
Kristen Jensen Sullivan, environmental science faculty member, will lead the trip, along with Ryan Phillips, also from the environmental science department. Phillips is an expert of native wildlife in Belize.
Total cost for the trip will be about $2,900. Students should fill out a FAFSA form for financial aid to help finance the trip after January 2010, because the trip occurs outside the time frame of the current applicable FAFSA calendar. Whether or not there will be scholarships for students is not known at this time.
Additional informational sessions will be scheduled. To learn more about studying abroad in Belize, contact Kristin Sullivan at (408) 864-8625 or Marc Phillips at (831) 234-7324.
