Cabrillo College women’s volleyball team defeated De Anza College on Friday, Oct. 18.
Cabrillo scored the first point within the first few seconds of the game, but De Anza quickly caught up by scoring the point after.
Six minutes later, Cabrillo was ahead 8-4.
Cabrillo won the first set 25-8 and scored quickly in the second set, leading 9-3 after seven minutes.
Cabrillo’s mid blocker Madison Borch and outside hitters Bria Morgan and Carly Craig dominated by relentlessly attacking, despite De Anza’s best defensive efforts.
De Anza lost the second set 25-18.
At the start of the last set, Cabrillo got the first point when they serviced the first ball. The game went on with the blockers of Cabrillo stopping any attempt made by De Anza to gain the lead.
In the end, De Anza’s offense could not break through. Cabrillo won the final set 25- 14 and swept the match.
“De Anza did not show their best, but they are good,” said Leada Malek, sister of De Anza’s assistant coach.
“Although we didn’t win the game, we had fun and we communicated well,” said Jila Malek, De Anza’s assistant coach. “There are things we can learn and take to the next level.”
