The DASB Senate unanimously approved $4,000 for the Institute of Community and Civic Engagement and the Education Innovation Summit at its meeting on Wednesday Oct. 30.

The $3,000 acquired for the ICCE will go towards the Youth Voices for Change event taking place on Nov. 22.

The event is a chance for over 300 high school students to discuss social justice. Several De Anza College students serve as student mentors for the high schoolers.

With the exception of six senators who were ineligible to vote because of personal involvement with the program, the vote to transfer the money passed.

The senate also approved $1,000 to fund Education Innovation Summit, an event that took place on Oct. 26.

The senate was not able to allocate this money prior to the event because the senate meeting that would have addressed the issue was cancelled.

The $1,000 requested would cover expenses already incurred for technical and professional services.

Presenter Hoi Yung Poon explained the benefits of the meeting, highlighting issues the summit tackled such as student depression.

Four senators abstained from voting because of personal involvement with the meeting.
