Netflix released a new documentary series titled, “The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez” on February 26, focusing on the events surrounding the death of 8-year-old Gabriel Fernandez in Los Angeles County. On top of the intense information provided, the documentary includes some of the most emotional accounts I have ever seen. 

I ended up crying a few times through the process of watching the series. 

“The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez” is a limited series with six episodes currently available.

The documentary focused on exposing each and every person who played a part in Gabriel’s death. Whether it be from the physical hands who hurt him, to the many departments who failed to do their job. 

The person who was interviewed the most and ran the defense of Gabriel was prosecutor Jon Hatami. He led the efforts to bring justice for the young boy who left this earth way too soon. 

The documentary shows us his processes, following him through each step of investigating every corner and collecting each piece of evidence necessary to make his case.

“The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez” helped shed light on the many issues within families, in the investigative methods enacted by workers of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.

Hatami intended to deliver every truth to the jury and courtroom in these trials of Gabriel’s parents and the social workers involved. 

This series informs the audience about Gabriel Fernandez’s background and early life before delivering details about the abuse he endured. If you know nothing about this case before watching, you will definitely understand every aspect of it through these six episodes. 

Actual evidence is shown many times, including some disturbing materials. If you have a difficult time seeing graphic photos and components, this series might not be for you. 

“The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez” is an incredibly impactful series that will transform the way you think and feel about certain aspects of life. Life is precious, and this series will remind you of that every chance it can.
