De Anza women’s volleyball team lost 0 – 3 to Santa Rosa Junior College in a tough match Wednesday afternoon.
After winning Reedley Tournament the prior weekend, head coach Dawnis Guevara looked forward to the game.
“I expect the girls to play their hardest and to be better every day.”
According to De Anza College Women’s Volleyball website, she is excited for the new season and has high expectations of the almost newly formed team consisting of only four returning athletes from last year.
“The team has to figure out which unit will be the best and everyone has to adapt and learn the right type of skills”, Guevara said.
Santa Rosa Junior College showed up with 11 fit players who overall seemed taller than the De Anza team.
Unaffected by that fact, the first set went back and forth, where both teams seemed a bit nervous and the guest team takes the set with 24 – 26.
The second period gave the impression of the Dons dominating, but then losing two five point leads and giving away the set 22 – 25.
“I want my players to have a winning mentality and always want them to play 110%,” Guevara said.
The final game ended 23-25 after 90 minutes and a contentious match point in Santa Rosa’s favor.
The Dons face Gavilan College on Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the De Anza’s gymnasium.
