The Gavilan College Rams defeated the De Anza College Dons at a home game on Feb. 17.
When asked about the season, Chris Vallegos, business major, 20, said, “We’re struggling a little bit. We’re on a four game losing streak.”
During the game, the Rams were first to make the initial runs during the opening innings, making the score 2-0 by the top of the third inning.
The Dons were quick to respond with a few runs of their own. With the bases loaded, the Dons were able to tie the score, then one-up the Rams 3-2 during the bottom of the third inning.
At the top of the fourth, however, with loaded bases, the Rams were only able to make one run, making the score equal. And during the fifth inning, Gavilan College got ahead by making another run.
It wasn’t until the bottom of the fifth inning that the Dons had the chance to respond. They tied the score, and again, got ahead 5-4.
At the top of the sixth inning, the Rams tied the score then made another home run during the seventh inning.
But De Anza quickly turned the score to their favor by making two home runs, score now 7-6, during the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Rams swiftly responded and tied the score during the eighth inning. The score remained equal for the rest of the inning and throughout the ninth.
The teams had no choice but to keep playing until one of them broke the tie. The score remained equal for two extra innings up until the top of the 12th when the Rams were finally able to break it.
Having one last chance to triumph over the Rams at the bottom of the 12th inning, the Dons got three outs, ending the game.
The final score was 8-7 in favor of the Rams.
“It was frustrating. A lot of errors on defense. We should have won,” Taylor Moran, 19, said after the game was over. “It was a heartbreaker really. We had a lot of chances to win and just didn’t pull it out.”
