Insomniacs came out Nov. 19 for the second-annual Insomnia dance at De AnzaCollege. Conference rooms A and B bounced with bass and rhythm to the top club mixes by DJ Eric, while 225 students danced from 9 p.m. to midnight.
The pouring rain kept people from coming and buying tickets at the door, 19-year-old student Alan Ching said. He was sitting at a table giving wrist bands to students and their guests. “Weather determines much of the success of the event, but I still think it’s a decent number [of attendees],” he said.
The dance was planned and executed by ICC adviser La Donna Yumori-Kaku and the rest of the Inter Club Council. The proceeds from the dance will provide clubs with additional funding to offer events and increase the ICC’s emergency relief account, Ching said.
The ICC also gave away prizes during the raffle, which included gift certificates including Starbucks cards.
Dance attendees gyrated to the beats and lit up the dance floor with light-emitting diodes creating lightshows, giving the dance a rave atmosphere. Tone Vy was one of those LED twirlers. Boredom brought the 19-year-old student out to the dance. “I expected more. There’s a small amount of people here.”
