Five alternative things to do on Thanksgiving Day
November 22, 2014
GO OUT TO EAT SOMEWHERE PRICEY
One of the easiest Thanksgiving alternatives is going out to eat. Going out to eat is quicker, easier, and cheaper on Thanksgiving than any other day because most restaurants offer Thanksgiving deals. Also, pick a good place beforehand and you are almost guaranteed a good seat because everyone else will be at home celebrating with their families.
VOLUNTEER AT A HOMELESS SHELTER
It is easy to find shelters of all kinds in your area at www.homelessshelterdirectory.org. Helping at a shelter does not even take up the whole day, in case you were worrying about nonstop labor on one of your days off, but it is a great way to help others celebrate their Thanksgiving if you do not know how to celebrate your own.
TRAVEL SOMEWHERE INTERESTING
A local getaway is another way to spend your Thanksgiving. Find a place online and spend the weekend somewhere new, but beware of overpriced hotels, they are common during this time of year.
SHOP TILL YOU DROP
Lastly, you could always spend Thanksgiving shopping, one of the most popular alternatives these days. Put all that money towards shopping that you would have otherwise spent on travelling or making a Thanksgiving meal.
Most stores open on Thanksgiving evening now, making it easier than ever for shoppers to score deals earlier. Don’t forget how important it is that you strategically plan out where you need to go for specific deals because nowadays Black Friday starts mid-Thanksgiving and we’ve all heard the Black Friday horror stories.
CELEBRATE SOMETHING ELSE
Just because you do not celebrate Thanksgiving does not mean that you can’t celebrate in general. Throw a party! Invite others who don’t know what to do on Thanksgiving and give them a reason to celebrate as well. Holidays are what you make of them. If you want to celebrate, you do not need to have a reason.
