The Listening and Speaking Center will be hosting their 2nd Annual Spring Celebration and Raffle June 10 from noon to 3 p.m. at the California History Center.
The LSC depends upon the help of volunteers to keep the doors open and have the workshops given to students continue. Seven to ten volunteers come through each quarter.
Last year, with departments and programs getting only partially funded, the LSC looked to their raffle event with a sense of urgency.
“Students stood up, spoke out and got attention for the programs,” instructional support specialist Kanako Suda said.
“Many of our students don’t feel like they are apart of the De Anza community,” Suda said. “But after coming through the Listening and Speaking Center, their feelings of not belonging are gone.”
This year, the celebration will again help keep services up and running in the uncertainty that lies ahead in the upcoming academic year.
Over 30 prizes will be raffled off, including an iPod Touch and a digital camera. Speeches, performances and an international lunch will also be among the offerings at the event this year.
