The De Anza Associated Student Body held its fourth meeting on March 10 discussing amendments made to the proposed budget for the 2010-2011 fiscal year in the Student Chambers.
Several students attended the meeting to support the programs they represent. Attending programs included Latina/o Empowerment at De Anza, Honors program and the Euphrat museum.
As the DASB Senate’s third attempt to pass a second vote before March 31, only four items on the proposed budget were amended. The Senate motioned to cut funding primarily from DASB committees and the Euphrat museum. The Senate cut $1,500 from the Environmental Sustainability committee, as well as $900 from DASB leadership training and $1,000 from the DASB Marketing and Communications committee’s printing budget.
In addition to the cuts, the Senate moved to remove $8,421 from the Euphrat museum, totaling the available funds for reallocation to $11,821.
Of that amount, the Senate granted $7,000 to the Honors program, which states is the bare minimum the program needs to survive next year.
The remaining $4,821 went into the special allocations fund. The second and possibly final vote will be held Wednesday in the Student Council Chambers.
Currently, the Senate has cut all funding from the following programs: Art on Campus, California History Center, Child Development Center, De Anza Youth Voices United for Change, Diversity Leadership Training Project, High School Events, LEAD, the Multicultural/International Center, the Open Media Lab and Library Internet Lab, the Outreach Program, Puente Project, Renew (Re-entry) Project, the Research Monitoring Program, the Writing and Reading Center, the Women’s Chorus, the Massage Therapy Program, the DSS Computer Assisted Lab, the DSS/EDC Spring Celebration, Administration of Justice, Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute, Dental Hygiene Services and the Listening and Speaking Center.
