Joys of cutting the education budget

    As The World Burns

For students all over California, the proposed budget cuts to the already under funded education has been on every one’s mind. If the cuts happen, several programs that are vital to student success could collapse.

But with all the opposition to the proposed budget cuts to education and what it will do to the system, nobody has taken the time to think for a moment about the privileges of the cuts or who might benefit from them.

Students may not realize it, but they gain the most from the cuts. With fewer resources, the schools will have to lay off some instructors, hence the first to go will most likely be that prick that failed you in Geometry and is constantly being flamed by everyone on Ratemyprofessor.com.

With a lack of resources comes a lack of pointless books, and students will not have to read. Since books are boring, expensive and useless, instructors will be forced to have students pretend to read material off the Internet or better yet, watch a cute puppy do tricks on YouTube.

Another benefit from having a lack of vital resources is that the administration would stop begging the government for funds, but instead look for sponsorship. There is a good chance students will respect a high tech facility named after Tom Cruise as opposed to some historically pointless social activist or Ronald Reagan.

Outside of the campuses, there are a variety of organizations that could flourish if American students receive an inferior education.

First up is the Religious Right, who for years has had a support base that, coincidently, consists of NASCAR dads, republicans, soccer moms and anyone who is just loathsome at science. When the masses are just too feeble to understand religion, it helps to have an opportunist to interpret everything, even though it’s not accurate.

Then there is any industry that relies on its customers being either blind or nonchalant to its unethical business practices. Who cares if Wal Mart is exploiting Third World countries or harming the environment, as long as a consumer could purchase an abundance of useless materialistic commodities, then there is no real harm done.

Next up is the Republican Party, who for the last 50 years has survived by warning the American people about the dangers of communism, terrorists, liberals, minorities, immigrants and anything else that is “un-American.” Why question or try and understand when it’s easier to be afraid and hate.

Finally there is the entertainment industry, which is constantly struggling to find new ways of igniting our imagination. Their task would be so much easier if the public had no sense of culture and was only amused by simple poop jokes, the benefits of not having a decent education.

But why stop at cutting the education budget? Why not cut the budget of the fire departments in California? Since it’s winter, a few burning buildings would warm up the neighborhood.

With the dark satire aside, these ideas should have triggered an epiphany that brought about the realization of the effects such cuts will have on not just education but any public service that is vital to society.

As we allow our government to continue to under fund our fountain of enlightenment while we grow more meaningless, in the end all we could do is sit back, have a cheap cold one and watch the world burn.
