A protest against the District Attorney’s decision to not charge De Anza College baseball players with sexual assault will be held tomorrow in front of the DA’s office in San Jose.
Speakers at the event will include filmmaker and activist Angela Shelton as well as the counselor of Lauren Chief Elk and April Grolle, two of the three De Anza soccer players who helped the 17-year-old girl go to the hospital after the incident. The California National Organization for Women is organizing the protest.
After months of investigation by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department and a grand jury was formed to examine evidence and hear testimony in private, District Attorney Dolores Carr decided not to bring formal charges against anyone. Carr cited lack of evidence in her explanation of why she did not bring the case to trial.
The event will take place from 1:00 p.m. until approximately 2:00 p.m. in front of the Santa Clara County building at 70 West Hedding St. on Thursday, May 31.
