The purpose of the Honors Club is to support the De Anza Honors Program and increase student camaraderie within the program, and between students of the program and De Anza students who are not in the program. It helps students achieve academic excellence and contribute to the community. The Honors Club meets every Tuesday at 1:30pm at S17 to discuss administrative details and plan for club events. There will be a club election for members to join the committee and take over the posts of activities coordinator and public relations officer on 21st November. Moving towards the goal of assisting students to pursuit academic success, the Honors Club organized a workshop at S43 on 8th November and invited an administrative officer from the University of California, Berkeley to talk about ‘how to write a good personal statement’. Over 80 students planning to transfer came over. Members of the Honors Club meet on Fridays at 12:30 pm to do voluntary services. They read with kids of Grade 2 and 3 and take online quizzes with them at Gardnar Elementary School in San Jose. “We would like to try our best to improve the community. We’ve taken so much from the society that we want to contribute as much as we can.” said a member of the Honors Club. There will be lots of exciting events coming up this year. The Honors Club will organize fundraising events through selling drinks in flea market for charities and invite administrative officers from private universities to guide transfer students on writing personal statements. The president of the Honors Club, Kristy Wong, highly recommended students with strong dedication to De Anza College and the community to join the club, achieve academic excellence and contribute to the community. She said, “Being a part of the Honors Club is really rewarding because it helps you both academically and spiritually.”
