Instructor Jack Lynch spent five-and-a-half years in leadership positions for the U.S. Navy, received his MBA from the Harvard business school and spent 30 years in business — all of which he says make him qualified to teach Business 65.
The De Anza College Business Department has unveiled its plans for Business 65, a new 5-unit business leadership course.
The class will be taught this fall from 6 to 8:10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
"I’m really excited about [the new business leadership course]," Lynch said.
Before he was hired to teach full-time at De Anza, Lynch taught business leadership classes at community colleges on the semester system including West Valley.
Lynch said that he envisioned helping De Anza students by giving them tools to take on a leadership position, be in charge and lead their organization to success.
"Even during the process of the course [at other community colleges]," said Lynch, "students have gotten promotions and advancements — moving up in their careers."
Lynch said that he has also taught students in law enforcement who were required to pass the class to qualify for promotions.
"It’s a good service to our overall community when people advance within their existing careers," Lynch said.
De Anza students who attend Business 65 will take part in a self-development process.
Additionally, students will form teams in order to tackle case studies. Each team will assess a particular leadership situation, make a decision and present their solution to the class.
