The most recent episode of the popular medical drama series “Grey’s Anatomy” left many loyal fans shocked and confused. The most unbelievable thing happened when Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), one of the main characters in the past 11 seasons, was killed off.

This plot-twisting episode, number 21 of Season 11, was aired on ABC on April 23.

In the episode, Derek witnesses a car accident while he is taking a shortcut to the airport.

A reckless 17-year-old boy named Charlie speeds past and tries cut Derek and a minivan off when the crash happens.
Shepard helps the family in the van until an ambulance arrives.

Derek promises he will go visit them at the hospital as he gets back to his car, but as he begins to make a U-turn, a truck smashes into his car.

By the end of the episode, Derek takes his last breath while his wife Meredith Grey holds his hand as the song “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol plays in the background.

For the past 11 seasons, everyone expected that Meredith and Derek, the power couple of the show, would have a happy ending. Fans are bitter at the irony of Derek’s death since he worked his entire life to become a great neurosurgeon and at the end he died because the doctors did not treat him appropriately.

Many people refuse to continue to watch the show because they think this will be the end for Grey’s Anatomy as they know it.

There are still a few people who accept Derek’s death understandably and have hope for
the future of “Grey’s Anatomy”.

Meredith could find another man to replace Derek or she can just stay as a single mom and remain faithful to her husband for the rest of her life.

Meredith, the rest of the cast and even loyal fans may find a way to heal after Derek’s sudden death.

Some of the old cast members may come back, like Christina Yang (Sandra Oh), Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl). They may be involved in the process of healing Meredith’s wounded heart.
