Feature: Movie Review – Taken 3
January 23, 2015
Taken 3 is an action film about ex-covert operative Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson), that is framed for the death of his ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen). Once being accused of committing the crime, Mills escapes from police custody, on the run from the police, he goes on endless pursuit to not only find out who murdered his ex-wife, but also to seek revenge. While on the run, Bryan underestimates police officer Franck Dotzler (Forest Whitaker) and his ability to keep up with him and officer Dotzler mission to seek justice. The chase between the two is like a game of chess. The film depicts the relationship and bond between a father and daughter, and stopping at no lengths to honor and protect his family. Police chases, car chases, gun fire, fight scenes, and jumping out of buildings unharmed, Bryan does the honorable act and seeks justice for the killer of his ex-wife.
The action, thrill-seeking film is carefully played out by the loud and suspenseful soundtrack, carefully placing loud dramatics in scenes that have you flinching at the sound of the loud dramatics. Bryan, the protagonist displays a heroic, untouchable persona that uses his experiences to defend himself against any antagonist in the film. The love and concern he has for his motherless daughter Kim (Maggie Grace), motivates Bryan throughout the film to continue and bring justice to whoever was responsible for Lenore’s death at whatever cost. Just when Bryan believes to have justified the death of Lenore, he comes to find out an interesting plot twist, causing a suspenseful and stressful chase against time and Bryan’s ability to save and protect his family. The film is a one and fifty two minutes long of predictable, overly dramatic action scenes, violence fist fighting and unsuccessful police chases leaves the audience guessing whether or not if Bryan will prevail or finally be defeated by the antagonist in the film. Guessing from his previous other films Neeson has with the ‘Taken’ franchise, lines from some of the ending scenes have the audience curious if an another Taken film maybe soon to follow this one or not.
The film overall is a repeat of a man’s endless pursuit to seek justice for a wrongful death in his family and the endless lengths he goes through to protect his family drawn out by suspenseful soundtrack and dramatic actions and police chases.
