Couples’ unique V-Day ideas

Alex Nguyen, Staff Writer

Planning an extra special date for your sweetheart this coming Valentine’s Day? Want to do something more than just the cliché dinner at your favorite restaurant à la candle light and roses? Making this year a memorable entry in your photo album? In that case, here are a few tips for your consideration:

Spend a day in Pacifica

Compared to Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz and Monterey, Pacifica is a quaint, forgotten getaway. It has two popular beaches, beautiful hiking trails along the coast, a diverse food scene, art galleries, a tattoo shop, a pier and a 100-year-old castle, which is rumored to be haunted.

If the weather is warm enough and both of you feel energetic, hit up a trail at Mori’s Point or San Pedro Valley Park.

If you still have enough energy, take a walk along the beaches or check out the pier.

Finally, wrap the day up with an exotic finish. Puerto 27 Peruvian Kitchen & Pisco Bar, overlooking a ocean view, offers a Valentine’s Day Special three-course dinner with live music and a complimentary love pouch, $55, reservation required.

Movie at Stanford Theatre

One of two vaudeville theaters left in the Bay Area, Stanford Theatre shows movies from the Golden Age. Previously screened films featured actors the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. All movies are in black and white. Tickets are a meager $7. Upcoming Friday films are Frank Capra’s “Mr. Smith goes to Washington” and “American Madness.”

Have dinner in downtown and walk over to catch the show. Go to stanfordtheatre.org for movie times.

Join a bike party

East Bay Bike Party is holding their monthly event on Valentine’s Day, so if you like something fun with a cardio activity, grab your bikes and join them.

Bikers meet up at 7:30 p.m. at one of the East Bay BART Stations and begin riding at 8 p.m.

There are themes for each event, so you will see bikers in costumes and decorated bikes. Past themes included Rubik’s Cubes, Super Mario and Twisted Carnival. Protip: Don’t bike on an empty stomach; have some dinner before you go. Check the website eastbaybikeparty.wordpress.com for rules, meet up and end location. Bonus: create the costumes together and have fun.
