De Anza College’s men’s basketball came up with a big win against San Jose City College Feb. 20, winning 95-81. The Dons faced a lot of struggles this season but showed no signs of losing this time around.

Dominic Simpkins, 18, communications major, was the main factor in getting the win, pulling up with 27 points.

“It felt really good to get the win tonight and I had to do anything I could to get the win for us tonight,” said Simpkins.

Such performances are nothing new when it comes to Simpkins, who boasts consistent points per game this season.

Darrien Davis, 20, communication major, was another major factor on the scoreboard, putting up 20 points for the Dons.

“It felt good to get the points for the win tonight and I was happy that I could do all I can do to get the big win for tonight,” said Davis.

Beyond the scoreboard, Ajay Singh, 20, business major, was a crucial contributor in the other aspects of the game, completing nine rebounds along with his 18 points, with four of them turning into big second chance buckets that pulled De Anza back into the game.

Coach Jason Danjanovic said he was pleased with the players’ performances during the game, amidst the solid defensive plays throughout the match.

Coming off the back of a long losing streak this season, the win is a huge morale boost for the Dons as the team hopes to end off the season on a good note.
