The De Anza College men’s soccer team cruised to a victory against Chabot College by a score of 6-1 on Tuesday Sept. 30.

“It’s hard to have a highlight when you score in the first minute and never look behind,” said De Anza head coach Rusty Johnson.

Within the first 18 seconds of the game, forward/striker Rajaee Delane scored the first goal, giving the Dons a 1-0 lead. The second goal came in the 11th minute on a volley from midfielder Josue Mendoz. Forward Ahmed Mohammed scored the third goal on a header in the 26th minute to give the Dons a quick 3-0 advantage.

Despite some injuries, the Dons managed to pace themselves and maintain their lead. Forward Kapanga Mchombo scored the fourth goal for the Dons on an assist from forward Jose Avalos, ending the first half of the game with a score of 4-0.

The defense for De Anza played solid throughout the game. De Anza’s goalkeeper Arshia Aghababazadeh finished with five saves and prevented Chabot from scoring for a majority of the game. Aghababazadeh said the thought of not getting scored on and winning again was one of the reasons why he remained enthusiastic during the game.

In the second half of the game, forward Juan Bugarin scored twice for the Dons, extending their lead to 6-0.

Chabot College managed to score a goal during the last 10 minutes of the game, but the Dons held on for a 6-1 win.

With the win the Dons improved to 8-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play as of Friday Oct. 3.

“The highlight for me is having this group firing on all cylinders,” Johnson said. “We’re feeling like we have a lot of depth and we’re really excited for having our next game.”

The next home game for the Dons is on Tuesday Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. against Las Positas.
