DASB discusses budget at first meeting

The De Anza Student Body Senate held its first meeting of the year on Jan. 14 and discussed the following topics:

  • De Anza College’s enrollment climbed to 32,032 students, adding $407,000 in revenue.
  • Chair of environmental sustainability Oscar Cruz introduced FixIt, a program to provide students with bike repair centers on campus.
  • Plans for a De Anza festival held by the DASB senate with the theme of environmental sustainability.
  • Naeema Kaleem was elected as legislative affair officer and Thao Le was elected as chair
    of administration.
  • In suppport of President Obama’s new proposal to offer free community college, DASB senators proposed a trip to Washington D.C. during spring break.
  • “This is fighting, a fight beyond us,” DASB Senate president Julia Malakiman said of the free tuition proposal.
