De Anza’s Muslim Student Associations organized a bingo night on April 26 with the Foothill chapter at the West Valley Muslim Association in Saratoga.
Asiya Shaikh, 19, a business economics major and MSA’s president, described MSA as a place that welcomes all students to come together.
”I would describe MSA as a place of community where Muslim students and non-Musulm students can come together and just hang out,” Shaikh said. “It is also a place where, if people are interested, they can learn about Islam. If they really want to learn more … they can meet Muslims and see what they’re really like.”
Shaikh’s mission carried over into the event of the night — bingo — where club members were quizzed on Islam and played Quran-related trivia.
Over 20 members showed up to the event which began with the Maghrib prayer at sunset, followed by the main event.
”The MSA bingo was exactly what it sounds like,” Shaikh said. “It was bingo but the questions were Islamic … different figures and different historical facts … I just want people to talk with each other and hopefully become close with one another.”
