Stargazing 2013
Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Emma Stone, Kate Winslet, Uma Thurman, Batman- these are just some of the names headlining “Movie 43”, a comedy featuring one of the largest ensemble casts in film history, perhaps second only to the “Lord of The Rings” trilogy.
Featuring 12 storylines, 12 directors and half of the Screen Actors Guild, ’43’ is an ambitious film. It could be an innovative, uproarious belly-buster, a dismal and confusing mess, or even merely mediocre. “Movie 43” premieres in theaters Jan. 25.
Stars Survive Apocalypse
All four of these films are set on post-apocalyptic Earths, and with the exception of “World War Z,” all belong to the futuristic sci-fi genre.
“Oblivion” – Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman in the future with robots. (April 19)
“After Earth” – Will Smith and son say “Welcome to Earth” to primal future Earth. (June 7)
“World War Z” – Zombies want a piece of Brad Pitt. Who doesn’t? (June 21)
“Pacific Rim” – Giant robots vs. giant, earth-conquering aliens. (July 12)
Meet the new Stars.
Same as the old Stars.
Fans of classic movie franchises are having just as good a year as those yearning for the end of the world on the big screen.
“A Good Day to Die Hard”, the fifth and latest of the almost 25-year-old action series opens Valentine’s Day. Nothing more romantic than Bruce Willis’ bald head and excessive amounts of explosions.
Also in the stable are “Star Trek Into Darkness” (May 17), “Oz: The Great and Powerful” starring James Franco (March 8), and “The Evil Dead”, a remake of the 1981 Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell cult hit.
You can almost touch
the Stars.
Remember that movie you loved but never got to see in 3-D? Well there’s a good chance you can cross that off your bucket-list this year.
“Top Gun”, enter the danger zone, again! The abundance of jet-dogfight scenes in 3-D alone should be worth the price of admission.
“Jurassic Park” roars back in 3-D April 3.
And love them or not, “Star Wars: Episode 1” and ‘Episode 2’ are scheduled for 3-D re-releases in September and October.
Star-crossed Lovers
Finally and perhaps most importantly: the movie to take your date to.
“The Great Gatsby” (May 10). Directed by Baz Luhrman and starring Leonardo DiCaprio. This adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel should be visually stunning, thrilling, and full of drama and romance.
