On the morning of Nov. 25, students from De Anza’s automotive technology day program gathered in the main shop of the E1 building, loading canned food and other nonperishable items into the back of two trucks for delivery to The Hub.
This delivery marked the culmination of the annual canned food drive run by the auto tech program, resulting in the donation of 5,000 canned goods, other nonperishable foods, school supplies and clothing items, according to Auto Tech Department Chair Dave Capitolo.
Running from the start of the quarter to Nov. 24, the automotive technology department partnered with The Hub to hold a joint canned food and clothing drive to support De Anza students. The items collected will stock Roary’s Kitchen at The Hub, helping provide food to students.
Open on weekdays, The Hub and Roary’s Market are located in the Baldwin Winery and offer food assistance, free snacks, toiletries, feminine products and baby supplies for students. The Hub also provides clothes and jackets to students in need through Roary’s Closet.
De Anza’s automotive technology department is located in the E1 building and offers three associate degrees in automotive technology, introductory courses in automotive repair, certifications for electric vehicle maintenance and autonomous vehicles, and smog inspector or technician certifications.
The automotive technology program is also accepting applications for its second bachelor’s degree cohort in automotive business management.
