After losing its longtime Santa Clara meetup spot, Bay Area Furry regroups weekly on Fridays at Main Street Cupertino.
Members say the growing fandom is rooted in creativity and inclusivity, which allows furries to find people who understand them.

REESE HUPPLER – 19, COMPUTER SCIENCE MAJOR: I’ve been going to this meet for a few months. It was great. At first I was very shy and nervous and just kinda sat off to the side, and then eventually someone came over to me and talked to me and got me more introduced into the community itself

CAINE THE HOUSE CAT: It was crazy just to find like-minded people, and they show up in places you don’t expect. One of your coworkers might be a furry, and it’s just so welcoming, so friendly, but also they’re tough when they need to be.

HUPPLER: I would say the biggest misconception is that it’s a kink and people do it for sexual reasons when in reality it’s more so a way for people to express themselves and have fun.
