De Anza Student Government held its quarterly de-stress event in the Student Council Chambers, at the bottom floor of the the Hinson Campus Center on March 17, in preparation for finals week.
Though these events are typically a collaboration with De Anza’s Active Minds organization, planning other events such as the “Lights Out” winter formal, and the rearranging of student government positions left DASG’s events committee with little time to coordinate with its usual partner.
The event did, however, feature another one of DASG’s long-time collaborators — Paws-to-Share.

Though these events are typically a collaboration with De Anza’s Active Minds organization, planning other events such as Lights Out, and the rearranging of student government positions left the events committee with little time to coordinate with their usual partner.

RYAN YI, 20, BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS MAJOR, CHAIR OF EVENTS, DASG: I think de-stress is important because I know a lot of the students are kinda feeling stressed about their finals. Especially if you’re transferring, your grades do matter a lot.
And this is a way for De Anza to kind of show that we do care for the students and their mental health. And this is one of the opportunities in which they can kinda come and make sure you’re in the right headspace when you’re going into the finals.

LALONDE: The students are amazing. You know, they want to share their information, they want to have conversations and learn more about us as well as us learning more about them.

YI: For me that’s de-stressing enough, seeing all those students come in and they get to have fun with the therapy animals, they get to really bond with the Paws-to-Share organization.

LALONDE: There’s a lot happening in our world today and mental health is really something people need to look at, and counselors are the number one on campus.

LEVONIAN: As De Anza’s Mental Health and Wellness Center announced that it would not be accepting new students past March 6th, students are advised to consult the third-party service Uwill for 24/7 mental health support, or one of many crisis hotlines featured on the Center’s webpage.
