Students and faculty gathered at the Kirsch Center for Environmental Studies for an Earth Day celebration organized by the environmental studies department on April 22.
The event aimed to raise awareness of local and international conservation efforts, featuring educational stations on conservation, energy efficiency and art making with recycled materials. Students who visited at least four stations were given free boba.
In the community garden, attendees saw monarch butterfly caterpillars and chrysalides in a netted enclosure.
Students were invited to tour the Cheeseman Environmental Study Area, which reopened in spring 2024 following its closure because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The area features over 400 species of native plants spanning 12 California biomes for students to enjoy within its 1.5 acres, according to its page on the De Anza College website.
