“DA Voices” is a recurring feature used to spotlight De Anza College’s diverse community voices. We ask the same question to different people and arrange their quotes so that readers can see varying points of view. This time, La Voz reporter Gavin Rust asked, “What country are you supporting in the 2026 FIFA World Cup?”

Dareef Khan, 21, mechanical engineering major said he’s supporting England.
“I like their players,” Khan said.

Muhammad Affan, 19, data science major, said he’s supporting Spain.
“I think they’re the most well-rounded team to come to the World Cup,” Affan said. “They’ve got a good balance of attack and defense.”

Isaac Kio, 19, electrical engineering major, said he’s supporting Mexico.
“My Mom’s side is from there,” Kio said.
Kio also said he wants to see the World Cup matches at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, such as Paraguay against Australia. “I think they’re both really strong teams.”

Ines Johnson, International Student Programs program coordinator, said she’s supporting her native Spain
“I’m from the south, a city called Granada.”

Della Wallat, 25, business administration major, said she’s supporting France.
“The French national team has been very intentional with investing into their players’ development,” Wallat said.
Wallat also said she appreciates the diversity on France’s team.
“They have a lot of Arab and African players that are children of immigrants to France,” Wallat said. “It’s kind of like a blended team.”

Blen Ashebr, 21, biology and political science major, said she’s supporting Mexico.
“I’m from Ethiopia, so my top team would be Ethiopia,” Ashebr said, noting that Ethiopia is not competing this year. “The next of mine would be Mexico because they play really well.”
