De Anza Student Government hosted its quarterly De-Stress Week events to give students a short break from finals week pressure. On the first day, students enjoyed hot cocoa, graham cracker activities and interactions with animals in a low-pressure environment.

TOMMY NGO: Day two of De Anza’s de-stress event gives students a quick break from finals pressure. Organizers walked us through what the event offers.
AUDREY TAI: This is our de-stress event. Usually, we have one per quarter the week before finals just for students to calm down, because everybody’s probably really scrambling around, and, like, you can just spend, like, 15 minutes here, drink some hot cocoa and, like, make some gingerbread to calm your mind. It’s like a little break so you can focus back on studying. It’ll take less than five minutes.
TAI: Today we have, like, hot cocoa for everybody. We have some, like, whipped cream and marshmallows, and we have, like, it isn’t gingerbread cookies. They’re not gingerbread cookies, but they’re graham crackers that you can make and break into any design that you want.
MARCELLO MARTINEZ: When I saw the gingerbread houses, they… actually, I didn’t see anyone build any houses, so I thought I would give it a shot.
TAI: Usually day ones are busier because it’s, uh, cats and dogs and, like, boba. That…like, those words usually attract people, and everybody loves cats and dogs.
JACOB KAO: Yeah. My favorite part was the first day. When you interact with those big animals, it’s really… I feel de-stressed. And also the boba we bought was really good, and we got a fair amount of people.
TAI: I’ve only been here for two years, but all of last year, the week before finals week, we’ve done a de-stress event. No requirements. Um, the only thing is that you need to sign in with your name, WASD (CWID, campus-wide identification) and your signature, and you can do whatever you want.
