The Mountain Lions took on the visiting Laney College Eagles, losing 10-3 and moving to a 2-8 overall record on Feb. 14.
This was the second time these two teams faced off, with De Anza College winning the first game 19-6 on Feb. 12.
The baseball team had its chances with runners on base, but was doomed with four double play balls, which came in the first, third, fifth and seventh inning.
“If we don’t hit into double plays, you probably score a couple more runs and make the game a little bit closer,” left fielder Logan Vieira (De Anza No. 24), 21, business administration major, said.

The Mountain Lions trailed from the beginning of the game giving up two runs in the first inning.
Designated hitter Lawson Darthard (De Anza No. 40), 19, business major, got the offensive scoring started for the Mountain Lions in the bottom of the first.
Darthard singled to center field, scoring shortstop Drew Paxton (De Anza No. 4), 20, business administration major.
“A lot of off-speed,” Darthard said. “First AB (at-bat) I drove to the fastball.”
Trailing 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, first baseman Keanu Hennings (De Anza No. 17), 20, kinesiology major, singled to right field scoring Paxton making it 7-3.

The bottom of the fifth inning was the last time the Mountain Lions would score.
Paxton continued to get on base going one of three with two walks and two runs scored.
Paxton also made some impressive plays at second base including making a sliding catch in foul territory.
Darthard was on base all game, going three for three with one run batted in and one run scored.
Head coach Don Watkins’ takeaway from this game is the team’s competitiveness.
“I always tell these guys, do you want to jump in the foxhole or do you want to run,” Watkins said. “Pressure is a privilege.”
The Mountain Lions will play a three-game series against Diablo Valley College Vikings on Feb. 18 and Feb. 19. The first game in this series is postponed over rainy conditions.
