Volleyball team beats Ohlone

The De Anza College volleyball team defeated the Ohlone College Renegades 3-0 in a home match Wednesday Oct. 2.

De Anza finished the first set on top with a score of 25-18.

The Dons started the match with positive energy and were “ready to play” and “ready to win,” said assistant coach Jila Maleksalehi.

The energy was maintained throughout the second set with De Anza leading from  the beginning.

In the middle of the set, the Renegades trailed by four points, and by the end, De Anza took the win at 25-14.

The final set was the closest of the three, with the Dons and Renegades ahead or behind one another by just one or two points.

It looked as if the set could have gone to either team, but in the final minutes, De Anza scraped by with a score of 26-24.

“Close matches are very exciting,” said Hung Sam, spectator and father of De Anza player Julie Sam.

The match was the Don’s sixth win of the season, but Head Coach Dawnis Guevara wants to see improvement in future matches.

“We still need to be a little bit better offensively, controlling the tempo on our side,” she said.

The next home match will be Friday Oct. 18 against Cabrillo College.
