“DA Voices” is a recurring feature used to spotlight De Anza College’s diverse community voices. We ask the same question to different people and arrange their quotes so that readers can see varying points of view. This week, La Voz reporter Meryem Arslan asked, “What are your New Year’s resolutions?”

Carlos Reza, 20, criminal justice major, said he wants to focus on personal growth and education.
“My first one is to be fluent in Mandarin. The other one is to read 15 books,” Reza said. “My other one was to finish the Bible in chronological order.
Timothy Htut, 20, electrical engineering major, said his goals centered on academics, discipline and faith.
“I would say my New Year’s resolutions: first, raise my GPA, for sure. Then get a job, get a car,” Htut said.

“My New Year’s resolution is to work out and actually get my work done on time, so I have time to sleep, “ Manahil Jawwad, 18, mechanical engineering major, said

Elliott Lynch, 31, electrical engineering major, said he wants to refocus and expand on his career.
“I would like to get back in employment and get my career back on track,” Lynch said. “I want to continue working with low-level programming languages, explore AI further and continue working with machine learning.”

“My main resolution this year is earning a 4.0 GPA and transferring to Berkeley,” Nicolas Gonzalez Bertran, 21, mechanical engineering major, said. “That’s going to take the whole year — the big challenge, the big goal — getting into Berkeley.”

“My New Year’s resolution is to get a driver’s license,” Rohita Pathare, 18, biology major, said.
