The De Anza women’s water polo team stood no chance against Foothill College in their 17-2 loss on Wednesday Oct. 21.

From the beginning of the match Foothill took control. The Dons defense could not compete with the North Coast No. 1 ranked Foothill offense.

De Anza was down 9-0 at halftime.

The Dons’ defense committed numerous fouls, which lead to many of Foothill’s goals. De Anza’s offense lacked any kind of fluidity and most times failed to get a shot on net before the shot clock hit zero.

De Anza did get on the scoreboard in the third quarter and again in the fourth, but it was too little too late.

Head coach Danielle Altman Von Matt said her team came out slow but their effort improved after the first quarter.

“I thought their effort in the second, third, and fourth quarter was really good,” Von Matt said.

Von Matt said her team needs to be more proactive and aggressive in shooting the ball on net.

“I would still like to see them shoot the ball, because we had three shots on goal and two of them went in, you have to shoot the ball to score,” said Von Matt following her team’s sixth loss in a row.

The Dons look to bounce back in the next match against Cabrillo College on Wednesday Oct. 28.
