The De Anza College baseball team took on the visiting West Valley College Vikings, losing 16-7, dropping its overall record to 3-13 on Feb. 28.
The Vikings came off an 8-6 loss to Skyline College, who the Mountain Lions will play on March 10 for their first conference game.

The Mountain Lions took an early lead in the first inning without recording a hit as second baseman Drew Paxton (De Anza No. 2) 20, business administration major, walked to start the inning and scored on a wild pitch.
De Anza quickly lost the lead in the second inning as the Vikings scored seven runs.
āYou take away that seven spot in the second (inning) and if we didnāt leave runners in scoring position and capitalize, it’s a 10-8 game,ā head coach Don Watkins said.
The Mountain Lions left just nine runners on base throughout the game.
De Anza scored in the fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth innings.
Pitcher David Colon (West Valley No. 23) hit a solo homerun and bat flipped before running to first base in the last inning.
Colon pitched the ninth inning as catcher Cal Chivers (De Anza No. 27) 18, business major, hit a two-run homerun to right field.
āI told the team when I got into the dugout I was going to swing 110%,ā Chivers said. āIām usually a pull-side hitter and to go backside fired me up.ā
The Mountain Lions head into the last week of preseason before conference games begin.
First baseman Colin Williams (De Anza No. 13) 20, kinesiology major said heās “trying to get another sneaky win before conference.ā
The Mountain Lions faced Cabrillo College for a rematch on Tuesday, March 3, losing 1-0. The team will play Monterey Peninsula College at home on Thursday, March 5 and Hartnell College away on Saturday, March 10 to round out the week before playoffs.
