The Mountain Lions fought the Ohlone College Renegades, losing 96-80 on Wednesday, Feb. 11 in the De Anza College Main Gym.
This brings the team’s overall record to 10 wins, 16 losses, and its conference record to four wins, eight losses.
The game started close, with both teams scoring points but the Renegades in the lead by the end of the first half 51-37, De Anza down by 14 points.
Earlier in the second half, guard-forward Theo McDowell, 19, business administration major (De Anza No. 24) and guard Mehki Thomas, 20, political science major (De Anza No. 2) cut through Renegades defenses, scoring 2-pointers.
De Anza hustled and stole the ball from Ohlone with Thomas passing the ball to Guard-Forward Dasan Poston (De Anza No. 15), 19, psychology major, scoring a 2-pointer 16 minutes in.

The Renegades’ unwavering pressure scored the team plenty through the night, having its lead 65-48.
With around 14 minutes left on the clock, a pivotal timeout let De Anza sub out its starters for the benched team — that wasn’t enough for the team to snag the win.
In the end, although this “second half team” clawed back 10 net points in the half, Ohlone took the win and gave De Anza its four point loss.
The Mountain Lions were disappointed by the outcome but held themselves accountable.

“We could have done better in the defensive end,” Poston said. “Ohlone had a lot of opportunities to rebound, we could have boxed out and down better as a team.”
Head coach Joe Berticevich called the game a “missed opportunity.”
“We didn’t do the things we needed to do to beat Ohlone,” Berticevich said.
The team lost its next game to the College of San Mateo Bulldogs 87-59 on Feb. 13. It will play away at Chabot College at 7 p.m. on Feb. 18 and close out the season with a rematch against the Skyline College Trojans, which beat it earlier this year in an 83-79 second-half upset, on Jan. 20 at home.
