The De Anza women’s soccer team surrendered three second-half goals in a 4-2 loss to Evergreen Valley College on Tuesday Oct. 13.

The Dons started fast, scoring two goals out of the gate.

The first goal came in the tenth minute, off the foot of forward Janizette Serrano on an assist from defender Celena Vasquez. Five minutes later, forward Elizabeth Langon-Lassange found the back of the net after a pinpoint pass from Vasquez gave her an opportunity.

At the 28th minute, De Anza allowed the first of four goals to Evergreen, but they thwarthed subsequent attempts and led 2-1 at the half.

Evergreen dominated the second half with sound defensive and offensive play that left De Anza reeling as they scored three more goals, putting them ahead at the end of regulation 4-2.

The Dons did not have any success in the second half, unable to muster a productive possession or defend against Evergeen strikers.

Head coach Cheryl Oweinsy said poor play in the second half lost the game for the Dons.

“We didn’t play the second half well enough to keep our lead,” Owiesny said.

The loss to Ohlone marks their fifth straight, the worst stretch of the year.

Land-Lassange said barring the outcome of the game, she was happy with the effort put forth by her team.

“It was unfortunate that it turned out the way it did in the second half, but we played our hearts out today and I’m really proud of how we played,” Langdon-Lassange said.
