“We’re very pleased with our Intramural Activity program,” said Miss Helen Windham, head director of the intramural and co-recreation program. “We have had wonderful response and enthusiasm,” she related.
This semester’s intramural program includes diving, swimming, weight lifting, women’s volleyball, basketball, and bowling.
ANYONE INTERESTED in intramural bowling should contact Jack Freeman at Futurama Bowl Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. The fee is $1.35 for three lines of bowling, including shoes. Other information on sports can be obtained at the Student Activity Office.
Co-Rec nights are every Tuesday from 7 to 10 p.m. All the campus athletic facilities are open and everything from the swimming pool to the apparatus room will be open with supervised instruction at most facilities.
Two Sports Days will be held on Oct. 21 at Cabrillo College and on Dec. 2 at Diablo Valley College. “We’ll take teams,” said Miss Windham. “There will be volleyball, badminton, swimming, bowling, tennis and golf,” she stated. Individuals participating in these events have transportation and free lunch provided.
THE HIGHLIGHT OF the Co-Rec semester will come on Jan. 24, 25 and 26 when there will be a trip to Squaw Valley. “We will charter four or five buses, depending on the sign-up,” said Miss Windham. “Students will stay at a chalet, and there will be a winter carnival going on. There will be skiing, ice hockey and other snow events, plus evening dances,” she related. Anyone interested should sign up in the Student Activity Office. The price for the three days is $31.50.
Another interesting function of this year’s intramural program is a faculty and staff recreation night, which is every Thursday from 7 to 10 p.m. Such activities as folk and square dancing, chess, a Jogging Club, trampoline, basketball, sauna bath (men only), volleyball, weight training, badminton, swimming and diving, and special demonstrations are available. Students are not to be in the Physical Education area at all on Thursday except when used as lifeguards or instructors.
