LETTER TO THE EDITOR (5/9)

Are we giving up on the environment?

The school doesn’t do enough to teach students how to categorize the trash. What ever happened to recycling? In other schools like UCSF, recycle bins are placed right next to regular trash bins. In this way, people are more likely to categorize the trashes.

Starting next year, De Anza College is going to cancel the recycle bins around school, and replace them with normal bins. Our school decides to pass off this responsibility to the trash company to deal with categorizing trash instead of taking initiative and doing something about it.

De Anza as an educational institution just does the worst example of educating its students. It rarely promotes recycling. When students want to know about how to recycle, the instructions on the flyers and recycle bins are not available and clear. Also, when the schools officials realized the recycling project is failing, they just gave up and turned the problem over to the trash company.

Good job De Anza, that definitely sounds like a great way to teach students to be responsible.
