    ADMIN OF THE WEEK

    JEANINE HAWK

Jeanine Hawk has a job that consumes 50-70 hours each week. As De Anza’s Vice President of Finance and College Services, Jeanine’s typical week consists of three to four hundred e-mails, countless phone messages, and daily meetings. All this, and Jeanine just keeps coming back for more. Why? “The students!” she says, “That’s what makes my job fantastic!” She seems to thrive on the contstant work. Her voice carries excitement and her e-mails are filled with exclamations. For Jeanine, “providing the best services and facilities to support student learning and success” is what it’s all about. Jeanine Hawk’s responsibilities include college budget and personnel issues, as well as facilities, grounds, custodial, food, printing and bookstore services. More duties include Measure C/E construction, Child Development Center, and technology, professional and workforce development. Somehow Jeanine manages time to serve as the FHDA Police Liason for campus. So many duties leave little time for extracurricular activities for Jeanine. When asked what she likes to do with her free time, she responds with a smile, “Nothing! Since I am so busy at work!” Being a hard worker seems to be Jeanine’s style. She achieved her BA in Social Science from UC Irvine while working and paying her way through. She then achieved her MBA from Southern Oregon University. From there, she worked at Rogue Community College in Southern Oregon as VP of Business and Student Services. A little over four years ago, Jeanine came to De Anza, accepting a position that brought her back to the bay area where she is originally from. The budget dilemma and the campus construction are currently taking a lot of Jeanine’s time. Make no mistake though, helping the students is Jeanine’s passion. Which is why graduation is one of her favorite times each year, “It serves to remind me the importance of what we all do to support student success.”
