Finance Chair Alegria resigns over summer

This past August, Mel Alegria tendered his letter of resignation as Inter-Club Council Finance Chairperson for the 2000-2001 school year. Alegria won this election in a very close race against Claudia Andrade in May 2000, after an earlier election in April was declared invalid.

Alegria wrote in his resignation letter that it was his dream to one day attend the University of Notre Dame.

He left DeAnza to attend Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, Indiana. He made reference to the 1993 movie, Rudy, from which he gained the inspiration to pursue his dream much as the protagonist of that story did.

At the time the April election was declared invalid, the Students for Justice representative had called for more gender parity.

“This … gives others the opportunity to take over the finance position,” said ICC Chairperson James Harris-Williams.

Alegria’s departure leaves the ICC with a vacancy, which is in need of being filled.

Nominations for the ICC Finance Chair will be made at the Oct. 11 meeting to be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Student Council Chambers. Voting will occur at the following meeting on Oct. 18.

The position of ICC Finance Chair:

    • May not be a voting member of the De Anza College Student Government or be a club officer or Student Trustee.
    • Must be enrolled at De Anza throughout their term for a minimum of six units during Fall, Winter and Spring quarters.
    • Must maintain a GPA of at least 2.5
    • Must not be on probation
    • Shall assume the duties of the ICC Chairperson during their absence
    • Shall be responsible for all ICC financial matters, fund raising activities and act as Parliamentarian
    • Shall not vote at ICC meetings
    • Shall attend the DASB Finance Meeting to represent ICC/club interests
    • Attend the ICC Officers Meetings and ICC Financial Orientation Meeting
    • Must Maintain two office hours per week
    • Attend and support Inter-Club Council events
