Angelina Lee was introduced to badminton when she was in her elementary school PE class. She enjoyed the individuality of the sport and celebrating her success with her teammates as a child.
It wasn’t until Lee had to transfer to De Anza College from Washington State University because of family issues, that she ruminated the idea of badminton.
When she began school at De Anza, she decided to look for a sport that would keep her more active and also meet her physical education requirements, so she decided to give badminton another try.
De Anza has one of the best badminton programs, having been state champions two years in a row and attempting their third win. “We have a really good group of individuals here,” Lee said. “We are all dedicated and hard working, I believe we can pull our third win.”
“It’s been a lot of fun to have her on the team this year. Although she’s an older student, she has a great spirit and tries her best to get out there and compete to her best ability,” said head coach Mark Landefeld.
Lee said she has plans to transfer to San Jose State in the fall, “I would love to continue playing badminton, but San Jose has no team, just a club, so we’ll see how that turns out” Lee said.
Lee said that her main goal is to achieve her masters after getting her degree.
