CLUB DAY – New students get a glimpse of what De Anza has to offer.

The main quad burst with enthusiasm, excitement and a whole lot of students during Club Day, Thursday, Oct. 11.
Over 60 clubs participated in the event, in hopes of recruiting new members. Apart from the overwhelming amount of free candy, club performances allured the students to the quad, and included variety of dances from the 4 elements of Hip-hop club, the Tae Kwon Do demonstration by the DATKDC and performances by the music club.
Club day gave the students a chance to understand and witness the effort people put into these clubs.
“We put in effort to make the club entertaining, educational and resourceful to a film major or an average student,” said Jorge Sanchez, film major and member of the Film Society.
Students seem to be surprised by the amount of people in the main quad.
“There are a lot of people here. There are more people than I’ve ever seen before,” said Barbara Moreno-Lane, Sociology and Spanish.
However, clubs got the attention they all wanted, including Latina/o Empowerment at De Anza, ¡LEAD!, that seemed to be running out of sign up sheets.
Each club had their own means gaining attention. The Muslim Student Association was giving away free CDs and reading material based on Islam, along with cookies and chocolate. The De Anza Vietnamese Student Association had a wheel of fortune, giving the students a chance to win free bracelets and food.
Overall, students seemed to appreciate the effort put in to the event.
“The presentations are pretty well done. I think most of the clubs have great information,” said Kirk Lenk, Business major.
De Anza students showed some school spirit that the new students were waiting for. By the looks of the packed quad and bright faces, Club Day was a great starting event of the quarter.
