    De Anza beats Gavilan 4-0, stretches winning streak to six

    The De Anza College Dons men’s soccer team won against the Gavilan College at the home field on Saturday afternoon.

    Since kick off, De Anza Dons started fullcourt press from forwards, and The Dons possessed a ball much longer than Gavilan. It means that Dons were aggressive in terms of their offense, but Gavilan focused on defense and counter attack.

    First chance of Dons was 13 minutes in the first half. Dons No.10 Jairo Magana (MF) made a midfield shot. Unfortunately, the ball hit the post bar.

    The first goal made in 16 minutes. De Anza College No.19 Tariq Adam, Forward, made a midfield shot again at an arc circle, and the ball passed Gavilan’s goal line. It was a beginning of scoring many points.

    After five minutes, Dons No. 3 Jose Urbina, Sophomore Midfielder, penetrated right side of the penalty area and kicked a ball. However, it hit hard the post bar again.

    In the first half, De Anza Dons’ help defense at midfield was powerful. Their defense led to turnovers of Gavilan College.

    Second goal showed Dons team play. Dons tried to make a chance from left side, and the ball crossed from left. However, the ball passed all the players in the penalty area except De Anza College No.23 Boubacar Diallo, Forward. Diallo scored easy goal to the empty net. This goal marked in 42 minutes. Gavilan players lodged a protest against the referee’s decision, but the referee said “It was not offside, the ball was 5 yards onside.”

    In the second half, De Anza Dons scored two additional goals which made sure their victory. Third goal was made by No.9 Daniel Garcia in 70 minutes. Garcia received a through pass from midfield, and he shot to the opposite post. Forth and last goal of the game was scored in 85 minutes by No.2 Kevin Kelly, Sophomore Midfielder. Kelly got a direct pass from corner kick, and he made a midfield shot without hesitation. His goal looked like Steven Gerrard, FC Liverpool Midfielder.

    At the last moment of the game, Dons substituted all players except No.8 , Jaspal Bhoot, Defense/Midfield, and Goalkeeper No.12 Paul Barbosa.

    After the 90 minutes game, De Anza made their six game winning streak.

    Dons No. 3 Jose Urbina, Sophomore Midfielder, penetrated right side of the penalty area and kicked a ball.
