The De Anza Associated Student Body Senate is hosting a dinner reception June 9 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Fireside Room of the Campus Center to honor this year’s senators, executives, instructors, administrators, classified professionals and student leaders, and to welcome the 2010-2011 Senate into office.
There is no charge, and all members of the De Anza community are invited to the reception.
“We would love for anyone to come by to show their appreciation and support to the inspiring individuals who are dedicated to the excellence of our community college,” DASB President Marlo Custodio said.
Semi-formal attire is not mandatory, but Custodio said that it would be nice to see De Anza students looking “sharp” for the evening.
The DASB will spend $300 from special allocations on hors d’oeuvres; crackers, cheese, finger sandwiches and sushi rolls. The cafeteria’s catering service will serve all food in support of campus business. Custodio and Bozena Teo, the event coordinators, decided against spending over $300 on a full dinner. “We hope that people come with their stomachs full but with their hearts and minds hungry,” Custodio said.
Student activists on campus will also be recognized “for their passion and commitment for community and civic engagement,” Custodio said.
Duane Kubo, dean of Intercultural Studies, is retiring after working at De Anza for over two decades. He will be honored for his work with intercultural studies, diversity and equity.
“We were hoping to be blessed with Duane Kubo’s presence as the closing speaker, but his wife’s current condition requires full care and support,” Custodio said.
