    BLACKOUT!

Due to heavy rains, students arrived last Tuesday to find no electricity, classes

De Anza College was disrupted by a major power outage early last week, at around 9:45 a.m. The entire campus was temporarily shut down until power was restored at 11:00 a.m.

“I love it,” said Alex Schimon, a De Anza Student, “my [economics] quiz was cancelled.”

Students and faculty received mass emergency phone calls and e-mails from the district informing them about the black out and class cancelations.

Several student services were temporarily closed during the blackout while some facilities required students to leave for safety reasons. A few buildings continued to operate using flashlights while offering manual services.

Due to class cancelations, many attempted to leave the campus. Resulting in high traffic congestion in the parking lots.

Nearby city utilities and businesses continued to operate with power and were unaffected by the campus wide outage.

Despite the unexpected surprise, students reacted calmly during the blackout while attempting to find shelter from the rain.
