    African Book Drive

    Woooo!!

The Phi Theta Kappa organization is throwing a book drive in hopes of extending the reach of higher education to Africa. The project, put together through an organization called Better World Books, aspires to get students to donate their unused textbooks rather than sell them back to the school. Project chair of the drive Niket Desai said in an e-mail “The Phi Theta Kappa organization here at De Anza feels that helping advance education across the globe is a noble and worthy cause. As an academic organization, being able to provide the means to battle illiteracy in developing countries is almost an obligation.” He added, “We hope that all of the great students here at De Anza will pause and recognize the education they are receiving and want to extend that to everyone in the world.” Better World Books is a program that can be found at many colleges, and the Phi Theta Kappa organization is trying their best to develop it in Northern California schools. Even if you can only donate one or two books, any contribution to this effort will help those who are in need of good, quality books to learn from and allow this drive to carry on as successfully as possible. Desai certainly doesn’t want this to be a one time deal, “We hope to make this book drive into a self-standing project that will be upheld at De Anza for good. With the volume of students, and textbooks, that go through De Anza each quarter there should not be a shortage of potential donations.”
