Students who feel up to the taskand ready to make a difference arewelcome to run for counsil positions. There are three counsil seatsavailable for election, the ICCchair, ICC chair of finance, andICC chair of programs.

The ICC chair is the generalspokesman for the counsil. He orshe facilitates the meetings heldwith the officers and keeps themeeting focused in case someonegets out of hand or violates theconstitution.

According to Smith, the Chairof fi nance is the “hardest job.”Among other responsibilities, thisjob requires one to oversee thecounsel’s budget.

The chair of programs is responsiblefor putting togetherall the events the clubs decide todo together. Students for this jobmust be very active.

Students interested in joiningshould contact one of the ICC officers. Although club membershipis not required, having interestin clubs is highly recommended. There are also required applications.

During this process, potentialoffi cers voluntarily attend the officer meetings. They are required toattend two offi cer workshops. Theworkshops help provide the backgroundand training for becomingan effective ICC member.

To wrap up the process, a two-to-three minute speech is given infront of the counsil members andthe club offi cers. Candidates muststate why they are the best personfor the counsil seat. Officers areask questions to learn about eachcandidate more thoroughly.

Students are not allowed toserve as an officer for ICC andthe DASB senate simultaneously, because of a confl ict of interest.

Although ICC and the Senate aretwo different groups, the Senateprovides the funds for ICC andother student programs.

Smith says that there’s nothingto be afraid of because the counsiladviser is always there, ready tohelp students.

Joining ICC is more thansomething that looks good ontranscripts, but is also an unforgettableexperience, says Smith.
