    Wrestling ramblings

World Championship Wrestling once again rumbled into the San Francisco Bay Area to the Cow Palace last Monday, for Monday Nitro.

The action was fast and furious with very innovative and interesting spots in the ring throughout the event.

Action started out quick when members of the Filthy Animals, Rey Mysterio Jr. and Konnan took to the air against the tag-team Boogie Knights; Alex Wright and Disqo. The Animals called out the Boogies for a “duck on a ladder” match, where the winner must climb the ladder to obtain the plastic duck for the victory. During the intense match, the four combatants utilized the ladder to garner the advantage, including several stunning leaps off of the top of the ladder by Mysterio. The unscheduled match created fireworks, which would last all night.

The show turned to drama when Vince Russo unveiled a master plan. Russo decided that in order for Bill Goldberg to get a title match, he would have to exceed his winning streak of the past, 176-0. Russo laid out the stipulation that if Goldberg were to lose, he would be out of WCW.

Goldberg began the streak by defeating a returning Meng, who attacked Goldberg earlier, then defeated both of the Harris Brothers. 3-0 already!

For hardcore enthusiasts, A-Wall and Reno duked it out in a very crazy hardcore title match. A-Wall and Reno drilled each other with chairs, tables and other weapons. Big Vito made an appearance, knocking Reno out with a dreaded stickball shot to the back of the head. A-Wall continued to punish Reno with a chokeslam through a table from the top rope. The three hardcore competitors beat the living daylights out of each other.

An unusual number one contenders match pitted Sting and Scott Steiner as a team against Jeff Jarrett and Booker T. Big Poppa dominated with his raw strength, but Booker’s speed caught up later on. Booker accidentally hit the referee with a sidekick and Jarrett nailed Sting with his guitar for the 3-count.

Elix Skipper lost a hard-fought powerbomb cruiserweight title contest with Mike Sanders and Kevin Nash, after Coach Nash delivered a jackknife powerbomb. Skipper showcased a lot of potential in the match, and took the giant Nash to the ground. Skipper is a young talent to keep an eye on.

The main event was a 49ers match where four boxes were hung above the ring on posts, with each containing a weapon and one with the WCW Heavyweight title belt. A grueling matchup between Jeff Jarrett and Booker T ensued. The two brawled throughout the match, and Booker held most of the advantage, including a wicked piledriver on the announcer’s table. Booker reached the belt when Beetlejuice stopped Jarrett from utilizing a guitar in the end of the match. Booker regained the belt that he deserves so much.
