If the daily grind of bumper to bumper Silicon Valley traffic is eating into study time, De Anza may have a solution. CarpoolZip.com is De Anza’s new carpool matching service. It will allow students interested in carpooling to form active carpool partnerships via the Internet.
CarpoolZip began on September 10 when the ALTRANS carpool database of thousands of Bay Area college students was transferred to the CarpoolZip.com interactive web-based program. The hope is that this will allow commuters to select their carpool partners through an interactive and real-time environment.
The student can sign on to the CarpoolZip.com web site and view a geographical information system map that details other commuters looking to share rides.
It also provides information on how to form new walking and bicycle-buddy groups. A chat room service is one of the many links that are available from the CarpoolZip.com web site. This can allow commuters to dialog with one another and to seek personalized trip planning services from one of the ALTRANS staff members.
For more commute alternative information students can visit the ALTRANS Transportation Center downstairs in the Hinson Campus Center, its web page at www.altrans.org, or call 408-446-1840.
