De Anza birdies fly to the top

De Anza has never had a badminton team. Until this year. Before this year, De Anza’s badminton team served as a club.

A hard-contested battle with Fresno proved why the De Anza Dons badminton team was here. In Fresno, the Dons defeated Fresno 17-4, the first match for the badminton at De Anza.

Starting off with a victory was a good thing for Coach Mike Gervasoni. Led by Ann Kim, The Dons came into their second match on April 11. Their first home match pitted the Dons against a newly Mission College team.

Virtually every match was a shutout victory for the Dons. De Anza’s badminton team annihilated the Mission team 21-0.

A perfect score. The victory over Mission boosted De Anza to a 2-0 start for the season.

The Dons contest Mission and Fresno again during the season, as well as San Francisco.
