Body slams were never this funny!

A cross between “Dumb and Dumber” and “Rocky”, “Ready to Rumble” is probably not going to win any Oscars for splendid acting, but it will make you laugh. Exciting wrestling sequences and hilarious comedy makes “Ready to Rumble” an excellent flick.

Gordie (David Arquette) and Shawn (Scott Caan) are two die-hard wrestling fans. They are tremendous followers of the undefeated World Championship Wrestling champion, Jimmy The King (Oliver Platt). Twisted wrestling promoter, Titus Sinclair, books King to lose his title to a fan-hated Diamond Dallas Page, with a posse of other wrestlers helping DDP take the title from King. Evil Titus betrayed The King, the fans, the wrestling world. Titus proclaimed King would never be back, and that his career was over.

The two septic workers, Gordie and Shawn, did not believe what had happened, convinced that King had been betrayed. The young men began a sojourn to bring the booze-swilled King back to the pinnacle and track him down at a trailer park, drunk as a skunk. WWKD? That’s the question the two fans ask. They take it upon themselves to convince King to go after the gold once again and see their hero back in the ring.

Bringing King back into the WCW rings did not come easy, especially with King’s fight with alcoholism. Gordie and Shawn bring King to wrestling trainer Sal Bandini (Martin Landau), a rugged ring veteran who beats up aspiring wrestlers and trains them to take punishment. Basically, Bandini doesn’t take kind to sissies.

Gordie, Shawn, and King sneak into a WCW event via portable toilets and their septic service to get at Titus. After the three attack DDP and Titus, Titus decides to give King one last match, at the Royal Bash PPV in Las Vegas, but this is just any match.

On the way to the PPV spectacular, Titus sets up many roadblocks for King and his friends, including sending a crew of wrestlers (Bam Bam Bigelow and Perry Saturn) to give Bandini a beating. Kin’s training is halted due to Bandini’s poor state of being. Bandini gives King some words to remember, saying “Always attack the opponents strengths.”

Several twists are thrown at King, including the spectacular triple-stacked steel cage. And more came, including the one million dollar prize given to King if he were to reach the belt and capture it.

Astonishing wrestling action and twists in the final PPV match surprise and amaze any wrestling and non-wrestling fan, alike. However, wrestling fans were able to predict the entire movie easier than most. Ready to Rumble is a zany parody of professional wrestling that will leave you laughing. You will find yourself attached to The King and asking yourself WWKD?
